Our Berkshires’ Bounty
Our Berkshires’ Bounty is a food pantry organized by the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Our church participates in that every Thursday one of us, or a team of two, picks up surplus food from several businesses and delivers it to organizations serving needy people.
Currently those participating include Bob Shepherd, Phyllis Pryzby, Ron and Linda Giancola, Judith Lerner and Elske Smith. Some non-church members also help, namely Larry and Phyllis Phillips and Ann Braxton. We pick up at Guido’s Market, the Lenox Price Chopper, Bagels Too, and Whitney’s. We deliver the food to the Redfield House, Barton Crossing, the Elizabeth Freeman Center, Our Friends House, the Salvation Army and occasionally the Jewish Community Center. Many other groups and individuals participate in this program, picking up daily from different businesses and organizations and delivering to a variety of agencies.
According to the Red Cross, Our Berkshires’ Bounty has picked up and delivered more than 150,000 pounds of food a year.
